Kitchen Transformation with Smart Storage

Our client wanted more than just a visual update; they wanted a space that felt purposeful, modern, and built around the way they live.

From the outset, their requirements included a breakfast bar for two, separate upright fridge and freezer units, and significantly more storage, including a double pantry. All of this needed to fit within the existing footprint, making space planning critical from the start.

cool tones

The client was drawn to cool, contemporary tones, with a particular love for navy Rotpunkt handleless cabinetry. While bold and striking, using too much navy in a compact space risked making the room feel enclosed. The solution was to balance it with light grey cabinetry and bright, reflective finishes, including quartz worktops and a metallic glass splashback, helping to keep the space feeling bright and open.

U-shaped or Peninsula

One of the biggest design decisions centred around the peninsula. Early layouts explored connecting it to the tall units to form a U-shape; however, this limited the opportunity for additional storage. By keeping the peninsula separate, the final design unlocked more tall cabinetry, allowing for a generous double pantry while maintaining a more open, sociable layout.

The peninsula itself became a standout feature, doubling as both a breakfast bar and cooking zone. The inclusion of a Quooker tap and domino hobs (combining induction and gas) offers flexibility and reflects how the client likes to cook. Along the back wall, the tall housing with navy Samsung appliances becomes a real design feature, adding depth and contrast against the lighter cabinetry while tying seamlessly into the overall colour palette. It’s the practical details that make a real difference in day-to-day use.

Designer opinion

Kitchen designer Diane sums it up best:

The client loves the dramatic change in design and the amount of storage she has now.
