A Carbon Black Kitchen for a Light-Filled New Build
When the homeowners embarked on their new-build project, they wanted a kitchen that would reflect the home’s airy openness. Their initial vision was a crisp white scheme, but designer Diane encouraged them to go bolder, she explains;
Because the walls and light levels were so bright, a darker kitchen would anchor the space beautifully, without feeling heavy.
The result is a masterclass in contrast
handle-less Carbon matt cabinetry by Rotpunkt, paired with Silk Stone Bardalino worktops laced with gold veining and warm oak accents. Hidden roller-shutter storage keeps everyday essentials tucked away. A practical touch that enhances the kitchen’s calm, uncluttered look.
The island became a pivotal design element.
Originally drawn as a long rectangle by the architect, Diane reworked it into a more balanced square, opening up the living area and improving flow. A vented hob eliminated the need for a bulky overhead hood, maintaining clean sightlines and a sense of openness. The curved oak breakfast bar and backlit bronze-mirror shelving bring character and warmth to the minimalist form. The result is a space that feels sleek, sociable and genuinely liveable.
